U.S Army Tour

Specialties:

I started by going to Technical School at Lowry Air Force Base for Precision Measurement Equipment Specialist. The school was 8 months long and I made Honor graduate.

My first assignment was with the Calibration Repair and Support Center in Augsburg, Germany. I worked as a calibration specialist, laboratory specialist and as an assistant team chief. I had only been a Specialist 5 for three months when I was put in for promotion and made Specialist 6 with only six months as a Specialist 5. While in Augsburg, I was able to pass over 90 college credit hours through College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, and another 18 credits through classroom courses.

My next assignment was at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama where I spent almost all of my time on temporary duty at other installations. I was sent for three months to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where I validated technical manuals and repair procedures for the new Bradley Fighting Vehicle System. I was then sent for four months to the advanced Calibration course at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado where I graduated with 97% average.

My next assignment was back in Maryland at Edgewood Arsenal, a sub-post of Aberdeen Proving Grounds. I worked as a lab specialist calibrating very unique and specific equipment in support of the Chemical Command. I coordinated Army calibration procedures with the National Bureau of Standards. I also developed a standardized calibration procedure for calibrating the many different types of scales the Army had. After only three years as a Specialist 6, I was promoted to Sergeant First Class and was sent to Fort Gordon in Georgia for the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer's course.

After the course, I was sent to Korea where I was the youngest team chief in the 2nd Maintenance Company. I was able to successfully pass every no-notice inspection for the duration of the tour while more senior team chiefs were being relieved. My team was the most forward deployed mobile calibration team in Korea with duty that took us frequently to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

My next assignment was with the Armament, Munitions and Chemical command in Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. The position called for a rank higher than mine but they never requested a higher ranking individual while I was there. I was responsible for recommending new test equipment purchases by our command. While there, I noticed a lack of test equipment documentation and decided on my own to establish a technical library of test equipment manuals from private vendors. I attended night classes every day for one and a half years at Hamilton Technical College. I was studying Electronic Engineering Technology and had completed three out of four semesters with a 4.0 average before being transferred.

I volunteered for Recruiting Duty and accepted a position with the Scranton Recruiting company in Pennsylvania. I was not a successful recruiter but I was an honest one. I was the only recruiter allowed in Pocono High School due to the trust I had developed with them.

I volunteered for an overseas assignment and was sent to Stuttgart, Germany. Within two months, I increased our calibration readiness rate from just above passing to the highest rate in Germany. As a result, I was made the supervisor for Ludwigsburg's two teams and I brought the site's readiness rate to the highest in Germany. I was again placed in a more challenging position by becoming the detachment supervisor above higher ranking people. I made the detachment the highest in the company.

I volunteered for instructor duty for my last assignment and was sent back to Lowry Air Force Base where I became the Instructor Supervisor for the Army portion of the joint-service calibration school. I was responsible for the training of my instructors and for the paperwork that is generated in a school. I received many comments from field commanders attesting the visible improvement of new soldiers that they were receiving from us.
